LBA: I have a huge huge gap in my line up!!

Here is my pathetic line up

Takumar 14 Fisheye
DA 15 ltd
DA 21 ltd
FA 31 ltd
DA 35 ltd macro
DA 40 ltd
FA 50 ltd
DA 70 ltd

DFA 100 macro wr
DA*200
DA*300

As you can see, there is a huge chasm between 70 and 100. What do I fill it with??
Please remember that the argument needs to be very convincing, as my wife had already attempted 3 interventions for my LBA (I ran away each time), and please do not say it depends on what I shoot. My wise ass friend mentioned A*85. Perhaps FA 77 (bought and sold once)? Are there any other primes out there? I swear though that after that, I will stop buying for sure.

Actually, I see three gaps, which can be filled with:

DA 15ltd (your WA is not rectilinear)
M 85 f/2
FA 135 2.8

Actually, I forgot that I had DA 15. So added it now. Thanks for the other two.

Any of the miriad of 85mm primes that Pentax has, or the Tamron 90mm macro.

P.S. Your FA50 isn't a limited lens. Sorry.

Another HUGE gap for you to stay awake tonight and worry about- 300mm to infinity!

But really, you have nothing in the way of big long glass and there are all kinds of 400MM, 500mm and 600mm Pentax lenses out there. Of course you need good quality TCs to go with them.

You poor unfortunate soul. No photographer should ever go through life with a flawed set of lenses as yourself! https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Seriously, the 70 and 100 are not (IMO) too close together. I wouldn't buy a lens, but use the extra money you save on a trip to a wonderful scenic location. But you may want to NOT carry all those lenses while on your trip.

That gap in between 21 and 31 is humongous. Look into a 24 or a 28 or both

you need atleast a 24mm, 85mm and a 135mm.

gaps in those focal lengths are huge from my experience.

I bought the Da12-24 not because I only needed an ultrawide, but also need something at 16mm and 24mm. since it's a zoom lens, it eliminated the need for individual lenses. I got an 85mm since I find the 70mm short on some occasions and the 100mm too long for some. as for outdoor telephoto, I went for an 135mm since the 100mm can't cover quite some distance which I needed. I know I had a 55-300 zoom which I found really handy, but I can't simply ignore the optimal quality of the primes and it's use under demanding situations such as poor/low lighting. who knows, I might consider getting myself a Tammy or a Sigma 70-200/2.8.

In the words of another, on a forum far, far away, try the Tamron zooms 70-210 19AH SP or the SP 60-300.

They actually think that they are primes.

Oops, you are right about FA 50. Freudian slip it was. Tammy 90 mac is a cool lens, but I now have 100WR.

You know, I have not "lived" in that range before. Even 200-300 range I still do not feel entirely comfortable. I should say, I really not "ventured out" yet, although I would like to some day. Just not quite there yet. Thank you for your infinitely valuable opinion!

Excluding DA*200 and 300, I don't mind carrying 10 or so of those lenses. The way I think about it is that I spent all that money buying them, so I want to use them as much as I can, and I may take not necessarily all of them but most of them depending on the situation pretty much all the time. I have three of those ltd carrying case that Ned came up with, and while I have some opinions about the functionality of it, they do make it easy to carry them around. I don't baby them either, and they don't need to be. They are very sturdy little things, especially those DA ltds.
