I also got my copy today. Well packaged, everything is just as it should be. I've been gleefully taking it around the house macroing everything I can. It's super sharp, has great ergonomics and build quality. I'm quite pleased.

I took a quick-n-dirty handheld shot this evening while I was goofing off with it. I even used the pop-up flash because it was getting pretty dark outside when I took this. It's a leaf bud on the maple tree in my yard, shot at about 1:1, showing that spring is right around the corner. I've taken better macro shots before, but not in the conditions I was shooting in. When you consider the poor light from the on-board flash, as well as the one-handed shooting, this turned out pretty well. This is definitely a fantastic lens.

I can happily report it was carefully wrapped and gently handed to me at the front door.
Thanks for the report, J!

Looks as if you use the same package-opening implement that I use.

Well, I sure would like one of these things. Maybe I'll put my Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8 AiS up for sale or trade in the Marketplace. . . .

Out of curiosity . . . does anyone have the A 100/2.8 macro? Any thoughts on comparison? I know it won't be as "WR" as the new lens, but it'd be good to know how all the Pentax 100/2.8 1:1s compare.

Of course, the new WR is a lot easier to find than the old A 100/2.8. . . .

I have this A 100 macro f/2.8

I will think to test it against the New and the "old" D-FA macro ;-)

There *IS* a difference

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the main difference between the two lenses' images, seeing as it was the first thing I noticed: The non-WR exhibits more purple fringing than the WR.

Maybe fourmiX could post 100% crops of the in-focus area in the f/2.8 shots to make it easier to see. The in-focus highlights in the non-WR pics have a clear purple fringe to the right, while in the WR pics it's either not there, or much smaller.

The WR looks like a very nice lens, both to look at, and for the photos it produces.

That's be great--I'd love to hear (or see) your take on how the older A-series version does compared to the two newer lenses--especially the WR.

The new WR looks and sounds great. I probably shouldn't let the lack of an aperture ring bother me. I mean, how often would I be using it on my MX, anyway?
