The 15, 35 and 70 together will only take up slightly more space than the 17-70 (according to lens review database - lens length).
pros:
- great 'wider' wide angle
- small and inconspicuous, light weight
- 1:1 macro and fn. sharp
- speed
cons:
- noisier focusing
- lens changes

I'm going on a trip to NZ soon, and I'm taking:
15, M 28, 35, M 50, 55-300.
...so I am a little biased, but primes are great

Well after getting a good deal on the 18-250 Sigma direct from CRK I couldn't refuse, I'm putting an order in the next day or so, getting my boss to pay for it

I'm with you on those choices. If you define "space" to mean volume, those primes take up less space, and they weigh less. In addition, they are much more comfortable around your neck than either of the choices being considered by the OP. I like my DA17-70, but for traveling by plane, especially where photography is not the main focus of the trip, I like small.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Is the sigma 18-250 in our lens review database? I couldn't seem to find it at all.
C.W, I think all of the choices will be pretty good and I hope you like the new lens.

This is excellent news for Aussies. In December, I was considering the Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM for my K-7 but it was not yet availabe with Pentax mount in Australia. I alerted CRK and I am glad that they listen ...

Enjoy your lens...
