Please advice (macro lens)

Hello

I consider acquiring a macro lens. It's not my favourite type of photography, but I still want a lens. I am looking for old Pentax lenses, manual focus, inexpensive, 100mm or more. As far as I know the A 200 F2.8 and A 200 F4 are considered excellent, but how do they compare with the modern lenses such as the DFA 100 and Tamron 90?

Kind regards
.lars

hi lars, as far as I know, the 200mm macro lens that you mentioned, is not cheap nor cheaper than the 90mm or 100mm at all.

Oooops! I meant 100mm F2.8 and F4.0,.... not 200mm.

I know that the 200mm is very expensive

Kind regards

Any Pentax lens labeled macro" will be stellar. Any third-party lens with true 1:1 macro enlargment will be stellar. It's really a matter of availability, lens size, minimum focus distance, DOF control. I use the FA 50 and love it, others use the 100s and 90s and love them.

Go with what's available, and you'll be happy.

typo eh? anyway, I think the F4 has a magnification of 1:2 if I remember correctly. you get more light with the f2.8 and much shallower DOF. but the f4 is much more cheaper than the f2.8. and the f4 is a very nice or great lens which has a great IQ just the same for a non-macro enthusiast.

I believe you'll be fine with the F4 as I find the 1:2 magnification ratio to be sufficient enough for macro shots and you can always put a diopter for added magnification.

I have the M100/4, and find it a great lens (and found it that with film as well). As my normal macro use is insects and lepidoptera, I find the 1:2 more than adequate, and seldom use even the full magnification available. For greater magnification, I can put my 50mm extension tube between the lens and the body. This gives me all magnifications between 1:2 and 1:1 with no loss of image quality. From my forum gallery
