I jumped the gun and bought a 18-50 f2.8 when i first got my K-x.
Now i've learned that i don't really care for that focal range, so i'll gonna go for a 10-24, 28-75, 70-300 setup in the near future.

I've gone the other way for my zoom range of lenses:

Sigma DC 10-20/3.5 (will ditch it if Pentax ever releases the 11-16/2.8)
Pentax DA* 16-50/2.8
Pentax DA* 50-135/2.8
Sigma DG 100-300/2.8 + 1.4x TC (will give it the flick if Pentax releases a 135-300/2.8)

Works very well indeed. The DA*'s are my most used by far.

Don't get turned off by the people telling you that you should have searched. We were all newbs once, and I think this is a totally legit question. A few years ago when I was starting out, I supplemented the 18-55 kit lens that came with my ist DL with the DA 50-200mm at the time, which was followed a few months later by the FA 50mm/1.4, and then a few months later by the FA 35/2.0.

I probably could have been ok with that set-up for a while, but then I found this and other forums and it was all over. Next came my Tamron 28-75/2.8 as the kit lens replacement, and the rest is history. You've gotten good advice, but do try to buy one of the fast fifties (A 50/1.7 or one of the AF lenses), and if you can find one, the FA 35/2.0 is awesome.

Good luck.

Wow, where did you find that lens? I must have one.

Well, sort of, but there's a flip side too:

- The forums become clogged with duplicate threads if no one ever reads existing threads before posting their own copies of the exact same question
- A good number of people who have excellent advice to offer won't do so, because they've already done so dozens of times before in similar threads, and by not checking them out, you are showign them disrespect
- You don't create as much good will toward yourself

I'd say the proper etiquette would be to first do the search, see what information is already out there, and *then*, if *specific* questions come up that aren't answered by the existing threads, start a new thread on that topic. This helps you and it helps the forum.
