Holly crap Steve did you really buy it? Wow Iím impressed, yes it will squash your tripod and you when you try and carry it!!

Itís way heaver than my K1000/8 that I dragged out for a shoot today; you are going to need a couple assistants.

Congratulations what a purchase, show us pictures when you get it!!

Phil.

Talking about long lenses, eh? (just in case someone hasn't seen this yet)
Yes, that was my pick in the "dream lens" thread.

Thanks Phil! This is a dream come true for me.......I still drool over the K1000 (it'll have to wait for a while). I've had 30 years of the white ultra telephoto gleaming in the background of the brochures and pictures from Pentax... It took me over 8 months to save for my ME Super when I was 14 and I think it is OK to splurge once in a while. The 645d was a sure thing before now but I can wait .

If someone has something like this. I'd like to know about your tripod?. I have a carbon fiber ball head that is great for my 67 but it'll get ruined. I live on top of a small mountain with a ridge for deer, eagles and hawks....the tripod doesn't have to be carried around..??

You bought that A* 1200, smc? Congrats! You better post pictures with and of that lens.

Regarding the tripod, here is a review about the Canon 1200mm. It might be useful regarding shooting issues etc. They were using a a Manfrotto 516 Fluid Head and Gitzo GT5540LS Carbon Fiber Tripod.

I will! ...it's like I'm 5 and it's my birthday. Taking pictures of the lens will be the easy part. Learning to take quality artistic photos will be my challenge....I have years to learn...

Tell me when you're ready. I'll stand outside and wave!

You see, you don't need to be artistic if you have an A* 1200m. It's like having the biggest guitar amp on the block. Nobody cares how well you play, we just want to know HOW LOUD IT IS!

Darn! Looks like it sold (for <$9K) I was going to go for it as soon as I sold my DA 21mm and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Steve: Congratulations!! I]ve watched you selling great cameras and lenses the last few weeks and guessed you were setting up for the 645D.

There is someone here who has the lens. He posts a moon shot once in a while and says he uses a Wimberley head - but I can't remember the tripod. I'm searching moon but I can't find it - but that's a start.

So I am guessing you already have your upper body and core strengthening exercises laid out and are diligently doing them?? Truth be told, having good fitness is a really nice thing - be it for hiking at altitude, etc. I am grateful that I don't have any problems with that aspect and handling heavier lenses/gear.

Again, congrats and I can see your plan of attack for the support system is making the "wheels spin". Look forward to those shots, although Japan is a ways away... and it's not Monday yet - at least you are on the Pacific Rim!

Regards,
Marc
