Vivitar PK-A 2x Macro TC: Worth How Much?

About how much is this worth in "near mint" or excellent condition?

Thanks!

Hi tkm,

I bought mine a few years ago at @ $75 USD, and that was about the top price I was willing to give for this piece at the time. I'd say that anything below $100 USD is fair. . . but as always, YMMV.

I would say $75. Any more than that and you probably should be looking at the cheaper dedicated macro solutions, like Cosina-Phoenix-Vivitar 100mm f3.5 or a Pentax-M 100mm f4.

Good Vivitar lenses tend to have one price when they are well-identified and have a clear description. It's usually possible to scour eBay until your eyes feel scratchy and find something vaguely or incorrectly described for a lot cheaper. It might be attached to a K1000 or an A50/2. It's obviously a riskier strategy but I like it.

Another Couple of Questions...

Thanks to both of you!

Yes, I've seen this phenomenon with a number of Ebay items, namely when sellers doesn't know much about what they have for sale. The danger is when the buyer doesn't know much either.

So that brings me to another question. I know this 2x macro TC will work with A lenses. But ... will it also work with, say, an FA50/1.4? That is, will the Vivitar allow this lens to function as a manual focus A lens (100mm 2.8 macro)? And, like a true 100mm macro, can it also be used as a 100mm telephoto, or will it only function as a macro?

TIA!

With an AF lens it should work as an A lens with 2X the focal length and it should also maintain infinity focus and so work as a 100mm f/2.8 telephoto with a 50mm lens as well as a 100mm macro. However it may well not be as good as a true 100mm f/2.8 macro lens.

Thank you! Just as I'd hoped. So I can also use it with my F 35-70 as 70-140 with an abysmal max aperture.

One in seemingly great condition just went for $86 on Ebay. I guess I don't want one badly enough, because I just couldn't make myself outbid that amount.
