i havent been able t find the specs on this lens - i see a few at keh and am lking for an affordable macro.... i was also considering the a new sigma 50mm macro.... does anyone know the magnification for the pentax - is it 1:2 or 1:4 - anyone have it? thanks!

It goes to 1:2. You can always look up specs at the excellent Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Equipment Page.

What camera do you have? IMO using the M-series lenses on Pentax DSLRs can be troublesome - especially for macros.

i have got a k10d... i am looking for a the lowest price, quality macro lens - i have been leaning towards the sigma 50mm f2.8 but thought that if i could get a really low priced manual, i'd pick one up... i would however like to find one with a magnification of 1:1

Hi, I tried both new lenses.. the Pentax 50mm 2.8 in store, and then the Sigma. My decision was the Sigma EX 50mm 2.8 Macro. No difference in the quality of image in my tests, but a considerable amount cheaper, 40% less for the Sigma at B & H ($299 US inc postage). The Pentax here in Australia was $690 AUD ($610US). Have been very happy with the Sigma. Here is a sample shot, Christmas Cactus

I believe they both are 1:1 macro
