Optional replacements (prime) for DA* 50-135 and 16-50

Hello guys,

I currently own the 16-50 and 50-135. Both of them work great for me, no problem so far. However, with the best experience with my 35mm macro, I am thinking moving to "prime way" and selling my DA* lenses.

Has anyone done this like me before? Which lens you choose to replace the ability of the 16-50 and 50-135 (not 100% cover but acceptable)?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply jsherman, I already have the 35mm macro, its superb. If I sold two DA* lenses, I still don't have enough $$ to buy your list LoL

here is a much more affordable setup

DA15
DA35
F/FA50 1.4 or 1.7
DA70
Tamron 90 or Sigma 105 or DFA 100 (depends on which is cheaper).
SMC K135/2.5 or SMC 135/3.5

I put the 1.4 because it is more readily available and because the 1.7 has been building up some price momentum and quite rare.

the F/FA135/2.8 is quite hard to find and expensive as well so the manual focus would be a more ideal choice, unless you are willing to shell out $600 on it or get lucky to buy one for $400 or less. less than a year ago, they usually sell approximately for around $200-$250. a used lens of that kind in good condition would now cost around $400 or more, depending on how the seller and the buyer values the lens, or how insane the seller and the buyer is about it. the Lehman virus sure did infected the used market price massively as well.

35mm Macro, 100mm WR Macro and 200mm DA*... Would be my setup if I were to go all prime.

I think the DA 15 is going to be an automatic recommendation for all. If you think the jump between the 15 and DA35 is too big, find a nice little A24/2.8. I would make the jump from 35 to the DA 70 or FA 77, and from there up to 135. I don't want you to be shopping for an FA 135 though, because I don't have mine yet and I don't want to add to my competition.

If you're trying to replace a 16-135 range with primes and have it come out cheaper, you'll need to to go with manual focus for some focal lengths, and/or go with wider gaps than you otherwise might want, but it's doable. As a good compromise, I'd be thinking along the ame lines as Pentaxor:

DA15
DA35
M50/1.7 or A50/1.7
DA70 or M85/2
M135/3.5 or K135/2.5

Taking the cheaper options at all points, total cost would be under $1000 given you already have the 35. Even taking the more expensive options at all points, the total cost would be less than what you'd get for the two zooms.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I appreciate that. Since I sold my 16-50, my line up lacks of its versatility and still looking for a right solution for it.

There are two options as ppl stated above: DA 15mm Ltd or Sigma 10-20 f3.5 or maybe the new Sigma 17-50 (not available yet). The 15mm seems very interesting for landscape shooting but might be not ideal for some wedding or portrait photos. The Sigma 10-20 is more ideal to cover both areas but I heard some issues with its IQ as well.

I still love the 16-50 but the SDM totally ruined my love with it. Is there any lens could replace it?
