Which wide angle zoom lens

I am just about to order a new pentax K7 and am unsure which lens to get with it. I have not owned a Pentax before and I am a amateur photographer. I mainly do landscape photography in a wilderness setting. I am undecided between the 12-24mm DA and the 16-50 DA*. I think the wider angle would be more suited to landscape photography but am attracted to the higher image quality and weather sealing in the DA* lens. Your thoughts are much appreciated.

I plan on getting the new 8-16mm Sigma even though I already have the 10-24mm Tamron since I use it more than any other lens for HDR and HD video.

Really 2 different beasts. The 12-24 is a true wide angle lens, with a nice range that can get you to a pretty nice walk-around focal length, 24mm. Whereas the 16-50 is obviously less wide (though still pretty wide), but in a more customary walkaround range. If you really want a landscape lens, and would benefit from the extra width of the 12-24, and would not miss the extra length of the 16-50, then go for the 12-24. The 12-24 is almost universally praised on this forum, and seems to be an amazing lens.

Though if the weather sealing is really important to you, then maybe the 16-50 becomes the front-runner. Other than possible SDM problems, people seem to really like their 16-50s. You could also get the 12-24, and complement it with the DA 18-55 weather resistant lens (the DA 18-55 WR lens being much cheaper than the 16-50). I'm sure you also know about the Sigma 10-20mm lenses which are very highly regarded, and there are other options such as the Tamron 17-50 and Pentax 16-45, depending on what exactly you are looking for.

If I were you, I would get the Da 16-50mm--the focal range is much better suited to landscapes. UWA, unless you focus on anchoring the landscape always in the foreground, is, in my opinion, too wide for landscape. You can still do great landscape with it, but I find the range from my 17-50mm Tamron much more effective at landscapes than the range of 10-20mm I get with my Sigma.
