Ok, but you aren't giving up a whole lot in comparison by using this lens in those situations.

If I could afford it I'd have a whole bag of primes myself.
If you have a couple hundred bucks lying about the place you can assemble a respectable collection of prime lenses.

True, but with my aging eyes manual focus is an iffy proposition at best. Sad, but there ya go.

Although I do enjoy the pics I get with my Tak (bayonet) 135/2.5 when I manage to nail one.

This is a great zoom lens. I carry it to all my trips, I do wish it's a little wider, but i guess you can't have it all. Love the f2.8, great for portrait and night shoot. Much better than the 17-70mm sigma

Aw, you guys, I just bought the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 and the Tamron 70-200 F/2.8, and now you've got me thinkin' that I should also look at the Tamron 28-75 F/2.8. I'm going to quit reading this forum, I'll go broke if I don't.

Overall, no, the 17-50 + 70-200 is a great combo for aps-c - the 28-75 is a great alternative lens that can be used instead of those two.

It's very sharp, but IMO, 17-50 is more useful on aps-c.

Yeah, nothing to be upset about with that combo jim. The 17-50 is a great lens. It's just that the 28-75 is a great lens also, and the extra 25mm reach does come in handy sometimes. But obviously, the extra width on the 17-50 is a real asset as well. I have both for different situations, but if I could only keep one, it would likely be the 17-50 for the wide angle. IQ is essentially identical.

Very nice Winglik! I still feel awful for the spending part so I can't hear enough "use it for everything" talk.

The Tamron 28-75F/2.8 is one of those lenses that has a huge cult following and growing. It is truly an amazing lens. This lens also has a huge following in the canon world as well..

Here are some recent ones.

Well now you've got me thinking I should get those other two Tamrons.

I've seen many of your posts in the Tammy thread and have been very impressed. These are wonderful too, especially of the girl and the guitar player/curly red-headed child. People are my thing and what I want most to capture well.

I can see why the following is cult-like. The need to buy it just rolled in like an out-of-control semi and I didn't even know what hit me. It's such a relief to see these posts and know it might have been stupidly impulsive but also very smart.

the 28-75 is only for those who doesn't shoot longer telephotos but retain a significant wide FOV at 28mm. most likely, this is used for general portraiture or a wedding lens.

It has earned its following too. It is also a Full-framer, making it even more appealing. I've been hanging onto my 17-50; it is my go-to hiker lens. But this lens makes me want to pick up a prime in the 20-24 range, sell the 17-50mm, and buy the 28-75, thereby making indoor people shooting a joy with the extra 25mm (f 2.8) on the long end.

Funny, on FF, the lens covers roughly 18-50mm, which was its original purpose. With APC, a need arose to make the 17-50 Tammy. LBA can not be stomped out.

Indeed it is a well earned following. One of the things that happens with this FF lens is the flexibility to really change DOF from being pretty shalow to pretty deep.

In the images I posted above, you have the pretty girl being shot at F/2.8 @ 75mm thus isolating her with shallow DOF, while the others are at 28mm and F/8 giving me the deep DOF I like. Truly it is like two lenses. I have noticed this to be true of most FF lenses. My 17-35F/2.8-4.0 behaves the very same way, which is why I am reluctant to change to the 17-50F/2.8....The only thing is that I have tuned out the back focus these where prone to. Once I did that, these lenses are tack sharp.
