Can this A50mm/1.2 still be fixed?

I've been hunting about for an A50/1.2 and found this:
SMC PENTAX-A 50mm f1.2 K Lens K-7/KM/K200D/K10D/LX Etc on eBay (end time 12-Mar-10 23:27:32 GMT)

The description says,
QuoteQuote:
PLEASE NOTE The Pin of the camera has been cut off, reason being this lens was used on a Canon EOS camera, thus the pin had to be cut off for it to fit on the adapter.

Is this mutilation repairable?

Cheers,

SB

By 'pin' do they mean the aperture lever? It would have to function as an M lens then, wouldn't it? I'm not sure that would even be effective, it's not really like a pre-set Takumar type lens even using the aperture settings.

As for the repair, it seems like someone could swap out the lever with one from another lens, but it would take a pretty skilled 'someone'

Steer clear... the modded lens is junk status imo. And what a ridiculous price.
Plus you'll definitely need to spend more money to repair it.

If the price was 49.99 maybe!! Eric could probably fix it and you would be good to go.

At 499.99 even with the pin intact is too high.

I cut off that very pin on purpose from my Auto Revuenon 50mm 1:1.4.
That way I can use it in aperture priority mode on my K-x:

Still happy with that modification!

I'd buy it in a heartbeat, if it would hit infinity on my Sigma (which it won't).
However there's no hope in hell that I'd pay that sort of money for a butchered lens... even if I had the intention of doing the same mod anyways

I don't believe that it'll fit on a Canon EOS with that mod. Although it's a common mod for people with Sigma SLR's, since the mounts are otherwise pretty much the same as a Pentax mount (with EOS electronics)

I'm sure that you knew this already, but it was an A lens in the first place, so it would have worked in aperture priority mode on any Pentax DSLR anyways

The A doesn't have a pin. What it does have is the lever as does the M lenses and K lenses for the auto aperture operation whereas the M42 lenses had the pin for that function. When modifications are done on m42 lenses, it is typically because they are auto aperture but don't have the A-M switch.

This lever could be replaced and possible from an A 50mm f2 lens. However, the price is ridiculous at 499 pounds especially considering a new one can be had for ~$200 more.

Pentax lenses will fit onto EOS cameras with crop sensors, even with the aperture lever in place. This surgery was likely done for a FF 5D.

Price is way to high. There were some brand new still in box on ebay not long ago for about the same price. I wish pentax would make some more of these. I would buy without hesitation.

Both the lever and the rear cover can be replaced easily if Pentax still carry these parts. It is sad that people did some irreversible surgery when there was better way. The lens is overpriced through for its condition.
