Sigma Wide Angle 28mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF

Does anyone have any decent information on this lens?

I'm in the market for a walk around and i've been thinking about the sigma 17-70mm, 16-45mm pentax but i feel like i always shoot fairly wide (below 30mm).

This lens is only $349 US. How does the image qual compare to say, the 17-70?

thanks!

The Sigma 28mm is a nice lens. I do not own one but I am going to in the very
near fututre. Indoor/outdoor parties, macro and such.

One thing that goes agains it, 28mm is to restraining for a walk-a-round "street" lens.
Another thing against it, is that it's a large and heavy lens.

The sigma 18-50 is a great walk around lens, it's worth the extra money over the 17-70
since I see you are looking at the $350 price range.

For a street prime, a 42mm equivalent is actually about ideal, if you asked me.

This lens is most certainly large, but it's really not as heavy as it looks. Nowhere near what I'd been kind of expecting. It's big enough that where you can fit it in a bag is an issue for someone who likes more conventionally-sized primes, and you *look* like you're shooting a big 2.8 zoom, but... It's basically a very fast 28 with a big barrel, not a short, fast zoom with the same size barrel all full of glass and mechanisms.

How is the quality for this lens? is it better than the 17-70mm @ 28mm? or the 16-45?

Sorry, I don't have either of those lenses, but the Sigma 28mm is sharp. I am certain that it performs well at similar apertures as the zooms you mention.
