LBA is driven by Pentax fans?

If you google for "LBA lens", you'll see the definitions from these very forums, and threads about Pentax from all over the 'Net, including Photo.net and more. Is it the variety and low prices and strange, e.g. Soviet, gear which makes the Pentaxians especially prone to LBA?

The Pentax K-mount is opened (do not require licence) so it has always been a paradise for oddballs.

Add to it, a great compatibility with M42 and the Pentax historical compatibility through the range of lenses and you find out why people interested in mounting strange/old lenses usually end up why Pentax cameras.

On contrary of Nikon or Canon, you don't have to ask yourself too much questions before mounting a lense on a Pentax camera.

A member here (can't remember who) actually coined the term "LBA" (Lens Buying Addicition). That might account for the use of the term on this Forum and the high number of Google hits that causes.

Lance coined the term.

I agree with others : Pentax is the only brand fully supporting legacy lenses, while others dumped their systems to force you to buy new glass. So anyone using an 20+ years old lens is likely to be using a Pentax.

Dont forget m4/3 - on the m4/3 forum I frequent you will find all sorts of strange lenses that venture well beyond K and m42, some even get great shots with CCTV lenses (some of which are also Pentax!). Pentax is by far the best of the aps-c sized sensors though, hands down, but it is at least an equal draw to the m4/3 system for alot of users.

I believe every brand has some acronym for an addiction to purchasing lenses. For Nikons it is called NAS (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome).

The mf crowd uses all brands of lenses on film and digital platforms and have for some time. The condition predates the name for the "affliction" so to speak. A related condition on this site is CBA.

You don't have go anywhere to find out that often the same MF lens e.g. Vivitar 28mm 2.5 in C/FD, AI or MD mount will be left alone or at a low bid whereas a similar lens in m42 or K mount will be snapped up in higher bid price. I feel sorry for the ebay sellers who think that the same lens can grep the same price without knowing the type of lens mount.
