I have a question about auto aperture on 'A' series lenses. Can the camera select continuously varying apertures, not just those selectable using the manual aperture ring on the lens?

For example my A 50 1.7 has one notch on the aperture ring between 1.7 and 2.8. However on the K-7 with the lens set to 'A' I am able to select 1.7, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5 and 2.8. Surely the camera doesn't just end up rounding to the nearest available aperture. Sorry if it's a silly question - first post, be kind! Thanks.

Yes, its continously variable. The click stops are only in the manual aperture control ring and dont prevent the camera from setting the aperture anywhere it chooses, so if you have half stops set or third stops, that is what you get.
