KENKO Pz-AF 2x TELEPLUS MC7 - SDM compatible?

Has anyone tried the KENKO Pz-AF 2x TELEPLUS MC7 on SDM or HSM? DId it work? The 2 extra powerzoom contacts are there, but apparently that doesn't mean it will fire the SDM/HSM. Seen here at B&H (but no longer available).

I have it and it is not compatible when I tried it on DA* 50-135mm f/2.8. The combo won't AF but you can still use it in MF mode.

When I use it on F* 300mm f/4.5, the combination is extremely slow in AF and I have to switch to all manual focus. But that is my 600mm rig in MF with ok but not exceptional results

thanks,
Hin

Okay thanks guys - you're money savers! I already have a MF one but thought I may upgrade to this.

Hi,

I have it too and just tested it yesterday on both a K-7 and a K20D, with a DA* 300, DA* 200 and DA* 16-50. It does not work at all, the elements in the lenses don't move - so I guess the contacts are not wired.

Apart from the Kenko 1.5 SHQ and the Tamron 1.4x MC4, I've heard that the Promaster 1.7x may work with HSM/SDM lenses on a K-x. To be verified.....
I've tried it on a K-7 and a K20D with the above lenses, there is some sort of focusing action going on, but the correct focus cannot be achieved.

Bored and it is raining here so hauled it out of the cabinet. It will not focus on my K7 with the DA*50-135 (Lens shows as Manual Focus), the camera seems to get the focal length as it does not ask for it for shake reduction.

It will focus (with enough light) with the DA 17-70 (SDM) and the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 (HSM). As I have had it in storage almost from the time I picked it up at a camera auction and have not used it other than for a couple of tests, I would not recommend it as being too useful. I picked it up new in box at a show and auction locally. I think I paid about $50 CDN for it. I have a $50 paper weight.

I sure wish Pentax would come out with one for us. They do not have many long lenses so a new teleconverter would help.

Whoaaa there Neddy. It focusses with the Sigma 70-200 HSM? But not the SDM?
