Tamron 17-50

It sounds like the only potential problem with this lens may be ff/bf. If this occurs with the Kx is there a way to callibrate it? I've heard of debug mode, but know nothing about it.

I heard you have to send it back to Tamron.

Lens ff/bf also can be due to sensor alignment. If thats the case, debug mode will help.
Google debug mode for pentax, and you shall get what you look for. or search the forum.

Most of my lenses are spot on... thats after I've realigned my sensor using the debug mode.
I did it for my K10D and Kx.

I thought my Tamron 17-50 might be FF on my K20D, until I ran some tests tonight and apparently it is bang on. Must just be me...

RiceHigh describes how to adjust the K-x here:

I had awful FF on mine (new one), Pentax K-x. I sent it to Tamron service and they fixed it under warranty (they just needed to know the camera model). Now it's spot on.

There is something about optical axis alignment and eeprom flashing in the log from the service.

I do not own a Kx, yet anyway, but did buy a Tamron 17-50mm for my K20 about 2 years ago. It is spot on, no need for any adjustments in the K20d. I have read discussion where others used RiceHigh's blog to adjust their Kx.

The tamron 17-50 is a very good lens IQ/price and has good reviews as long as theres no FF. Ive been waiting for an oppurtunity to get this lens but i cant take the risks of having an FF problem.

I went through the whole cycle of buying, testing, returning, testing a second piece etc... and finally kept the second copy... I was quite sure even the second had some FF ... but in real-life situations I have been getting great shots from it...

Here's my experience with the whole FF/BF bit ...!

bf= back focus
ff=front focus

refers to wether the focus plane is in front of/behind where you focus.

Did that make sense to you? (I'm new to this to....)

Great information. Thanks everyone. This is why I really like this forum. It sounds like between debug mode and/or sending it back to Tamron, ff/bf is fixable.
