Tele Zoom Buying Help Requested

Hello everybody. I have a K10D with a Sigma 17-70 for a walking around lens. I'm looking for a tele zoom to compliment that, and I have been looking at the Pentax 55-300.

But the thing is, I could afford to spend 2-3 hundred dollars more. Problem is; things seem to take a big price jump after the Pentax. 8 or 9 hundred dollars for some of the Sigma zooms, and mucho dinero for the Pentax 60-250 or the bigma.

Is there anything I'm missing, anything in the 5-6 hundred dollar range? I sure haven't had any luck. Or should I just stick with the 55-300?

Thanks for any insights you can give this confused soul.

you should be able to find a Tokina Pro AT-X 80-200mm/2.8(a little hard to find, I just sold mine) or a Sigma 70-200mm/2.8 II HSM for around $650 used...
those might be ur better choices.
by the way, I did sell my DA* 60-250mm/4 for about $980

The 55-300 is a slower zoom, which also makes it lighter and a bit more hand-holdable. It also has very good IQ.
