You're better off trying to do a trade. Too bad there isn't much demand for Canon FD.

I think the issue is that the register distance for the FD mount is considerably shorter than that for the K mount, which makes it not able to be altered and focused to infinity.

The mount needs to be shortened but it's possible. Some people here has made it themselves I think.

It's possible (although harder than many other mounts) but I don't know anyone who would do it commercially. The breechlock mechanism is pretty much the reason for the the short registration distance of the FD. Once you remove the breechlock you're pretty close to PK registration distance but getting the aperture to work is kind of hard..

I've converted one Vivitar 2/28mm from FD to M42 successfully and now I'm converting a FD Canon L 2.8/300mm to PK but it's been kind of on hold as I've been busy with other things.

woe is me

I have a pile of FD-mount lenses that I'll probably never be able to sell, don't have the skill to surgically alter, don't want to use for target practice, don't want to buy a Canon film camera to put them on, etc. Guess I'll eat worms and die. Or, screw on a reversal ring and use them for macros. But how many frigging macro lenses do I need?!?!? I guess it's the worms...

Which forthcoming camera? Canon's retro EVIL?

Samsung NX? Novoflex seems to be making FD adapters for it.

I believe there are already adapters for m4/3 camera bodies too, so perhaps that would be an option instead of modifying fine glass.

Yes, only the x2 crop factor of the 4/3 is a bummer.

For those with extra cash in their pockets there is full frame Leica M9. Novoflex makes an FD adapter also for Leica M.

edit: I wouldn't think of modifying a mint lens. The L 2.8/300mm was in pretty bad shape, so I don't think any collectors are offended.

I have posted a few pointers for such conversion in the following thread:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-clubs/64271-impossible-lens-club-9.html

This is a basic (but fully reversible) conversion that works well in AV and M modes on Pentax cameras.
