Da 18-55 /11

My friend just purchased a new Kx the kit lens is a mark 2 version has different colour anodizing on it , thats the only difference I can see.
Is there any optical difference with this lens?

Exactly which version do you have? The original version of this lens has been out of production for a while and it was optically different from the II, the WR and DAL currently in production. In addition the II and WR have the SP coating.

So wedgetail, is the version you have mounted on your K-x the plain 18-55 you got from somewhere else and mounted on your camera, or the DAL version of the 18-55 (plastic mount) that came with the K-x? (DAL is written on the side of the lens and the front of the lens).

If it's the DAL 18-55, it's optically identical to the 18-55 II - ie essentially the same lens.

Production on the DA 18-55/3.5-5.6 AL ceased in early 2008 and was replaced by the AL II. The WR and DAL have the same 11/8 elements/groups. The earlier one has 12/9. The WR also has the SP coating.

Did you get yours used after you got the K-x because it didn't come with the K-x unless someone swapped them. BTW, the Kx is a film body from the late 70s. The dSLR is K-x. Similar think with the Km & K-m.

Edit: There is a comparison of the various Pentax short zoom K-mount lenses here including the 4 discussed in this thread.
