Will Sigma 1.4 teleconverter damage non-sigma lens?

I've been looking at the Sigma 1.4 telekonverter lately, mainly becouse it's the only one which is easily available in Norway. My question though is related to the protruding lens element. I read somewhere on the internet that it has a pretruding lens element and this got me a bit worried. Is it correct that it has one, and will this mean I risk damaging my lens if I use a non-sigma lens with it?

I'm not concerned with the loss of AF as I'll mostly be using it with manual focus lenses anyway, so I wouldn't need it.

So, it will work with some lenses, however not all.

The mechanical aspect of it, as in the aperture, focus screw and what not should work with just about any lens. However some lenses will just stick in a little too far.
I know that Sigma's lenses will tell you what TC they're compatible with, however I doubt that there's a list telling you what other brands will work
