Tamron XR LD DiII 18-200 or 250

Hi all,

I've decided i need to go a bit better than my Sigma 18-125 and am after an above average 'walkaround' lens. I've been checking out the 18-200 & 250 Tamrons and will more than likely get one of these. There is a $200 diff for the extra 50mm, is that worth the extra cash?

I'm really hanging out for the DA*'s, but the price is/will be astronomical down here in Australia. I'm aware there are other threads relating dating back but can't seem to find them. The Tamrons should do a good job and are reasonably priced.

What are the experiences of those who own either or have used. What do you prefer, what is better. The specs seem to be pretty much the same.

Cheers in advance

I have neither of the lens but as far as I've read the $200 difference in price does not only gain you +50mm on the long end but much better quality (picture and built).

That is if you really need a consumer zoom, the tamron 18-250 is the best.

Good luck!

I recently bought the 18-250 as a "travel lens". Both lenses (the 18-200 and 18-250) appear to be the same size; tests in some of the photo mags/web sites indicated that the 18-250 (which is newer) is somewhat better. As the price difference in the U.S. is $100, I got the 18-250.
There are some photos taken with the 18-250 posted here; you should be able to search for them. The pictures that I have taken so far are pretty good.
