I still think we're missing a DA Limited between 21mm and 35mm. But that's a dangerously too close to my DA 40, so I am eyeing the DA 15 at the moment.

To complete my current set of lenses, I would absolutely love to have a DA* 8-16mm F2.8. I can even say I'd put $2000 on such a lens. It needs to match the quality and weather-seals on my other DA* to qualify, of course.

Now if I was dreaming about a single all-purpose lens.... Currently I have lenses from 12 to 250mm but I use the long end very little, so 90% of my photography occurs between 12-55mm, I guess for the I would consider just not shooting longer for the convenience of not changing lenses! It would have to be F2.8 or
better, SDM and weather-sealed of course. So, here's the dream: DA* 12-55mm F2.8

It would be awesome to see a weather-resistant 12-60mm f2.8, without HSM/SDM.

I'd probably pay upto a grand for that and then weld it to my K20D :-)
I just posted a similar request except mine is 12-55mm F2.8 and SDM but I'll settle for this one too

How about a fixed-focus (hyperfocal) fixed-aperture (ultra)wide angle lens with tilt/shift? :P

The other FA limiteds are the ones i would love to have. That, and a 2Xmm wide-angle with a wide aperture a-la 20mm 24mm sigma for full-frame(for my film buddy).

Also I fear if Pentax will not make a specialty macro lens ala canon MPE-65 with a macro flash (Please no ring flash) I will switch or atleast go dual systems. Im not a fan of canon bodies at all, so its a hard pill to swallow
You don't need/have to. There's no canon to pentax adapter, but that should not stop you.
There's no trouble of "losing infinity focus" since there's none to begin with. The only problem maybe the aperture that i don't know if it can be controlled in the lens.

I'm thinking of waking the tinkerer in me, but i need first a $1000+ for the lens and all the parts i will need.

- Something in the 24-28 range. I could see Pentax going for 26 to closely match the FOV of the original M40 pancake, and that's practically perfect by me. If not 26, I think I'd prefer slightly wider to slightly longer, but would be OK with it either way.

- f/2.4: just fast enough to satisfy those who want their primes faster than f/2.8, not so fast as to make it too big or too expensive. But I'll settle for f/2.8 if that's needed to get size and cost under control.
Marc, my dream lens would be something similar to yours 20-28 or 24-28mm range with f1.8 or f2 max aperture in small form factor and of course, SMC coating - either FA limited or DA* quality would be great. dreaming..

The one I'm dreaming about lately is a Tamron 70-300MM F/2.8-4 DI VC USD, or f2.8 throughout (but I really am not built to carry a bazooka around)...

This would make my dream kit, this lens, M50, DA40, and a DA15 (or Sigma 8-16mm)...

The aperture control is a big problem. The Canon mount is all-electronic, no mechanical linkage. I don't think I've ever seen anyone come up with a way around that.

Yeah right! Yesterday i tried shooting a M9+Noctilux f0.95. No AF ofcourse since neither body or lens supports it. It was IMPOSSIBLE. There was no DOF anywhere to be seen...

That looks great - I'd love to find one, if any exist. A few months ago I stumbled across a relatively fast 35 (EBC Fujinon-W 35/1.9), and I really like it on the Spotmatic, but the screw mount makes it awkward to use on a K cam. My experience with M42 adaptors has been less than pleasant.

My dream lens is still the FA31, but I can't seem to bring myself to cough up that kind of cash for something that doesn't come with a front yard, or at least four wheels and an engine.

You need Catch-In-Focus. Oh wait, it's an M9. Well, so much for that idea.
