Mirror Tele on *ist DS

Hope this isn't posted in the wrong place. If it is, I'm sure Adam will move it.
Anyway, I'm considering getting a mirror tele, probably 500mm f8. However, I'm concerned about the diameter of these lenses, specifically whether they'll clear the flash 'snoot' on the camera. I've already had a problem with a bellows attachment, and have to use an extension ring to get it on. I won't have this option with a mirror tele. Any idea what fits/doesn't fit?

I have a Sakar 500/8 mirror (US$13 on eBay), T-mount-PK. It's about the same size as my DA 18-250 and easily fits under the flash housing on my K20D. Your mileage may vary.

I also have a Rubinar 1000/10 (cost a little more), M42. It is indeed too large to fit under the flash housing. I added about 20mm of extension tube with a PK mount, so now it's more like a 1200/12. Yes, it still focuses to infinity and beyond.

If you plan to buy your mirror from a dealer, ask first if it will fit your *ist DS.

The Vivitar/Samyang/Phoenix/whatever 500/8 fits on the DS, and the Tamron Adaptall 500/8 55BB fits too.

My MTO 1000 fit fine on my K100D, I have not tried it yet on my K20.

The K100D looks to have about the same body profile as the K20D, so your teensy weensy little mirror'd bugger should probably fit. But my Rubinar is a HE-MAN'S mirror, none of that wee wimpy Oriental stuff -- no, this big dog was made in RUSSIA, where men are men and musk-ox are frightened!

The Sakar 500's body is but a minuscule 75mm across and it weighs a measly 420g, hardly enough to crush a dung beetle or two. My RUBINAR MAKPO (macro) is 110mm at the narrow (camera) end, 125mm wide at the business end, and it weighs 1760g!! That's enough to slaughter an Armenian!

The MTO is also a Russian lens, I just haven't tried it out on my k20 as of yet (but I do have several extension tubes if needed

I measure my Sakar 500 as being 75mm across, and my DA18-250 as being 72mm across. I'm looking at pictures and specs of the MTO 500 -- doesn't give it's diameter, but says the glass is 62mm wide, so you shouldn't have any trouble fitting it on. And if I'm wrong... well, sue me.
