And if you really want to limit, between 1000mm and 1200mm or so
I was specifically looking for which lenses people would pick in this range as I'm thinking about buying a 1.4 50mmish lens. We had a discussion about it in Pentax DA* 55mm 1.4 vs Sigma 50mm 1.4

I ultimately decided on the DA* 55mm, but I was curious as to which lenses others would pick in this focal range. To include the Voigtlander 1.4 what had some favorable comments in that post, I needed to go +8 so I felt the range for this poll should include -8 as well.

If I was looking at really long lenses, I might put up a poll about the 1000-1200 range, but I can't presently afford any glass in that length.

Well, based on the poll and other research we decided to pick up the DA* 55mm. Thanks for your continued votes in this ultimate battle of the 50s.

I don't own all of them, only FA43ltd, FA50/1.4 and the 50/1.7 in various iterations.

To me, the FA43 is clearly the best of the pack. I used on film and on digital now 80% of time, the rest is mostly taken by my FA31 which is all in all a better lens, but I prefer the 43 for its compacity.

I love the slightly wide angle of it on film, and get a great amount of keepers with it. On digital, it makes a great compact all purpose lens, and forces you to choose what you shoot (so much less pratical than on film, but you can get accustomed to it)

The DA55 is a completly different beast made mostly for portrait but large, heavy and weather sealed. I have no doubts that the quality is fantastic, but this is not a lens for me as I like to handle lighter gear and be unobstrusive (the reason why my everyday camera is film)

Can't really be based on the poll since the FA43 won.

Me too. That's a Pentax strength.

at 50mm +- 10mm the number of lenses just exploded, and I'm really trying to get a picture of 50mm(ish) lenses.
Nevertheless, if we are talking digital, the DA40 is the favorite of many over any 50mm. It's inclusion is certainly suggested when the 43mm option is in the mix.

The FA43 wasn't really on my radar, although if I see a good deal on a used one, I'd think about picking it up now.

I guess it surprised you the 43mm ltd out did the DA* 55mm nearly 2 to 1 in the poll and the the DA* was second in the Poll.

More than a little.

The surprises?

The DA* 55mm did as well as it did.
The A/1.2 to do anywhere near this well. I love this lens, but I just didn't expect as many other people to love it.
I expected the Sigma 1.4 to do a lot better than it did.
I've already talked about the 43mm ltd. Never-the-less, wow.

I'm a little surprised by the FA 2.8 macro gleaning as many votes as it did. I prefer a longer focal length for my macro shots.

I believe it has something to do with popularity. there are a lot of options for macro. and as far as I know, most people would prefer something longer than a 50mm for macro use. there are a few option with the f1.2 aperture speed, but it's apparent that the A is more preferred. aside from the "A" setting, this can also be due to popularity, not just function alone.

I think the Voigt 58mm f1.4 and the Voigt Nokton 58/1.4 SLII should be joined together. I inadvertently clicked on the Voigt 58/1.4 while really meaning to choose the Voigt Nokton

Better a short macro than no macro, I suppose.

No Takumar? I'd be happy with the 43 LTD and a SMC Tak 50/1.4 - and I am.

Nesster, I keep my M42 world and k-mount world mutually exclusive when making such assessments. That means you need to pick another k 50mm and m42 50mm.

Why more votes for the M/1.4 than the A/1.4?
