Sigma APO 135-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG

I was looking at maybe trying a pick up a copy of this lens in the near future and wanted to know If any of you on here had any experience or comments about this lens. I read some mixed reviews on FM but there standards are way higher than mine. haha. Thanks in adavance.

edit- I also just saw the Tokina 80-400 f4.5-5.6. Any opinons on this lens? If i got this lens i would probably sell my 50-200 to help pay for some of it because I would only have a 55mm to 80mm gap which I could tolerate instead on a 55mm to 135mm gap if I got the Sigma and sold my 50-200. hmm

cheers,
tyler

If your looking at buying the Sigma in the near future you might want to ask your dealer if there are plenty available.

I got the last 1 from the Canadian supplier, so the supplies might be limited where your at as well

What can I say about the lens....
I've gotten some wonderful pictures from it.
For me it's perfect for my wildlife shots, including while on my boat.
I actually bought it for birds, and am very impressed with it for that so far.

I am very pleased with it in general, and would recommend 1 for anyone looking at photographing wildlife.

You've probably heard that it's heavy. Well in the beginning it is, but you get used to it quickly.

These pictures were taken with it

Where did you find the Tokina? As I understand it, the Pentax version was discontinued a while ago and is only available used.

Nice pictures Stu, I've been waiting for the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 but they keep moving back the date on the shipping and now no longer list Pentax as one of the mounts. This 135-400 would be great for the horse shows and sports events I like to do, it would also be great for shooting sailboats.

I did some searching and the Sigma is still available in a number of places for around $600 US.

I had the 1.4 TC on my list ready to order when the 70-200 was shipped. I think I may order the 135-400 for my upcoming vacation, it will give me the additional reach I need when the kids are body surfing.

Update: The Sigma 135-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO Aspherical AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens with Hood & Case for Pentax AF Cameras is available from Adorama for US $589.00. I ordered mine today and they have it in stock and will ship today.
