What would be a fair price on this group of lenses?

Posted an ad on craigslist wanting to buy pentax lenses and got a reply pretty quick from a guy selling the following lenses

35mm F3.5
50mm F1.4
135 F3.5

I'm assuming but not certain that the 35mm is a K series, and the 50 and 135 are both M series. If they are in good condition and no major flaws. What would be a fair price??

Are they Pentax brand or other brand. Price would depend on that too.

If they are Pentax you can check prices for them in the Lenses data base

I don't see 135/3.5s selling for much over $50 lately. I prefer the M over the K mostly on size; some people go the other way.

The K50/1.4 might be worth a bit more than an M just on rarity. They're optically different but not really a noticeable difference. I think maybe $60-70 for an M and $10 more for a K, but I tend to overlook these lenses as I certainly don't need more.

The K35/3.5 is a very good lens. OK, it's not fast, but it's really good at everything else. I think $80-100. These are not too common, so auction prices can be a little high because of demand - people looking pile on to the small number of auctions.

assuming those are Pentax glasses.

K series

35/3.5 = 90-100 (due to rarity)

50/1.4 = 70

135/3.5 = 80-100

M series

35/3.5 = 50

50/1.4 = 50

135/3.5 = 70

I forgot that those prices that I mentioned are lenses that are in good condition.

cosmetics lens wear, broken filter ring, scratches, oil, dust, fungus, etc... would affect the prices more than 50% of the selling price and might be even worth as close to 10-15 bucks considering the cost of repair and servicing needed. but as much as possible, stay away from lenses in bad condition unless you know what you are doing.

Good advice,
I've been given 2 lenses in questionable shape. One was fixable, and I'm using it a fair amount these days. The other one was just too bad to repair.
I wouldn't pay a thing for any lens that wasn't in good working order.
I use the same logic with everything electronic or mechanical as well.

In addition to all the other comments, OEM lens caps have value. If you aren't a purist and you have generic replacements you can sell the OEM's. (they don't seem to increase the sale value of a lens when included with it).

All-black K front caps, $7-$9
Black/White M front caps, $3-$5
K/M rear caps (no lip to protect the A contacts) $5-$9 if you get lucky on the high end.
A rear caps with Asahi Pentax rather than just PENTAX - $5-$7

The K/M rear caps are actually getting a bit scarce.

I just got a response back from the seller and he gave me a price of $175..but did not include pictures or what version the lenses are. He also said he would give me the camera body which is a Pentax Spotmatic. He said the 135mm has a hard case. But he also said the cameras battery compartment was corroded. So it might be worthless...or fixable....but I really have no use for the camera.

The key is whether they're Pentax lenses. If so, they're all Takumars, so it's well worth it. (Assuming all of these lenses were used with that body. Make sure they all screw in.)

It's especially worth it if he also throws in the body, because even with the corroded battery compartment, that's worth at least $25 to $50 alone.

90% of the Spotties sold these days have non-functioning meters anyway, so you could easily sell that to retrieve some bucks. But my guess is you'll keep it.

I may keep it...but chances are I won't...hoping he responds again before the night is over...I'd be willing to meet and buy these tomorrow if he does and they're in good shape.

Do you have an M42 adapter to test them with your DSLR?

I just realized something:

Chances are, that 50 1.4 is a Tak, since that's what came with that body at the time. And that is now going for on average on eBay, a hundred bucks. Yes, you can find for $75, but I'm telling you--on eBay, $100 is the average selling price.

So with the body worth at least $25, that makes $50 for the other two lenses, whether or not they're Pentax.

Be sure to post bigger images because I can't see those. or better yet, use the image wide tags on the tool bar. Its just above the text box, 3rd icon from the right.
