The Sigma is just an amazing, versatile lens. As a multi-purpose lens it's unrivaled in my eyes. Of course, a faster lens might be better for wedding or low light, an SDM lens is silent, but a fast enough, close focusing, sharp and contrasty lens is a great package.

I recieved the Sigma today and have mixed emotions about it. I like the HSM and the OS works a lot better than the K-7's sensor shift SR. Pics are a lot sharper and more colorful than with the kit lens. I do not like that it focuses slower than the kit lens, it's to heavy for an ungripped K-7, it rattles inside when the OS is turned off and it overexposes using the pop up flash, the kit lens get it right, even when the camera settings are the same for both lenses. I guess its because the kit lens tells the camera how far away the subject is and the Sigma does not. I'm probably going to return the Sigma and get the DA 17-70. I love the feel of the K-7 but I just can't get over how heavy the camera is with the Sigma on it. Its heavier than when I use an old metal Tokina 80-210mm lens.

Hm, interesting experience. Especially about the slow focusing, that surprises me. Sigma HSM used to be quite fast.
I'm afraid focusing won't be (much) faster with the DA 17-70, SDM is also slower than screw-driven kit lens... The weight difference isn't too much either, Sigma 535g vs Pentax 515g.

I have the DA 17-70 and I like it (I use it 95% of the time), my only wish is if SDM would focus faster... however if I were you then I probably wouldn't return the Sigma for it.
