Anyone have a spare $2200?

Even my LBA can't get me to buy a silver A 50/1.2

For those who don't want to click a mystery link:

SMC Pentax SMC-A 50mm F1.2 Special
This lens has the silver finish of an FA Limited.

so what is the difference between it and a standard A50/1.2. Solid sterling silver? For that money I want sapphire glass and platinum...and I don't just mean for the barrel!

The difference = bling to go with the LX Millennium Special body

I agree.

But both a Volkswagen and Jaguar can take a slow spin around the block, but it just doesn't feel the same.

In this case it is more like a red Porche and a silver plated Porche. Every thing under the hood (bonnet) is the same.

But the civic isn't as fast in the 0-60 (i.e. the f1.2). A silver plated A 50mm f2 wouldn't have the same appeal, bling or not. A honda would be equivalent to a Sigma in this analogy.

I knew that was a lousy analogy.

Does anyone remember those body kits they used to sell for Volkswagen Beetles? You removed the old fenders, and replaced them with fiberglass parts that turned the car into a Bentley, Jaguar...whatever you ordered.

Kind of reminds me of that.

I wonder what happened to the LX2000 or LXTitan that lens came with? IIRC the complete LX2000 kit, including commemorative box and papers, traded around $2500 a few years ago.

Blue, is that your set-up? Very niiiiiiiice

So how good's the silver coating.....I had a mate with a silver Tammy that looked like the bumper of a new car that's been squashed....you know all nice silver mica with black stresses and flecks underneath.

It is an expensive exercise in vanity.....though so is my desire for an FA31/1.8 I think I can get a silver one for less than this older but faster A baby though
