Need a budget tele...HELP

I'm looking to get a budget tele zoom for my K10D to tide me over until I can get some faster and longer glass. I'm eventually going to add the new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 that's coming out in the near future, and a Bigma...but until I have the funds for either of these I need something for my K10D for birds/nature, etc. Since I sold off my 20D kit to get the K10D...I've been getting along with the kit lens and the excellent Tamron 28-75....but I'm really aching for something a bit longer.

I hear how great the 50-200 DA is...but it's a little short for my needs right now...I'm also considering two others, the Tamron 70-300 Di lens and the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro DG. I used to own the Sigma 70-300 APO Macro Super II in Canon mount, and I found it to be a pretty sharp lens. I hear really good things about the Tamron for a budget tele as well

If anyone has any samples from any of these lenses online, preferably on a K10D, I'd appreciate if you could point me to them. I've had a hard time finding full size samples to judge the image quality from these lenses

I own the DA 50-200 and a Sigma 70-300 APO DG, personally I use the Sigma far more than I do the DA lens as the 300mm gives me optimal shooting for motorsports which is why I purchased it (lack of a 70-200 2.8). A few examples (albeit not the best photos you'll ever see but something to gauge the Sigma by) shot with my K100D.

here are a few i took with the Tamron at Busch stadium June 10th, was a cloudy day, and from our seats, some of the shots were through the backstop screen, but i think they came out pretty well, considering I'm somewhat of a noob, lol Included is a Wide shot with the kit lens to give you an idea where we were sitting.

I have a virtually brand new Sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 lens ($279 new) for sale right now in the photographer's marketplace for $150. See the ad there for details. If that doesn't interest you, check out the other lenses in the marketplace forum on this site.

Don't overlook the Sigma 135-400, not a lot wrong with this lens. If you can get a later model it has the lens lock function which would be quite useful when walking around with it. Mine does not have the lens lock feature and I suffer from lens creep, which can earn me a few puzzled looks from time to time.
Cheers

So can we have some votes here?

Who vote for Tamron 70-300 raise your hand. Who vote for Sigma 70-300 APO raise your hand.

What is your budget?

I have seen a few good long lenses, and your budget is most important in the selection.

For example, a few weeks ago I saw in one store a tameron 500mm F8 Mirror lens, ($249 cdn) and a SMC pentax 300 mmF4 ($500 cdn)

I'm sure you could find similar selections.

I personally have an SMC 300mm F4 and a vivitar 400mmF5.6. I often couple the 300mm with either a 1.7x AF-TC or 2X TC

these become very specific lenses, mostly for nature or sports,

I also have a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 with the matched 1.4x TC which I bought new when I got my *istD

I haven't had too much time to play with it (got it yesterday), but I'm reasonably happy with my Tamron 70-300 so far.

Hey Raider, I think you will find there is at least 3 supporters of the Tamron.
Seems we are dealing with a split hair between the two.

Hmm...so tamron = 3 votes, sigma = 1 vote?

Not very conclusive...any more voters?

I would second eaglerapids comment. I have no experience with the Tamron, but have been quite satisfied with the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro lens.
