Pentax? The 43, 70 or 77mm.

They're all very good lenses. Also any of the various 50's. See the Lens Review section of this site if you want to see more specific comments on any of these lenses - there are also sample images in many of those reviews. You can also find sample images in some of the "club" threads on this forum (eg, "DA Limited Club" for samples from the DA70). But you pretty much need to sort out for yourself first what focal length you want - perhaps by using a zoom.

The following post will be of interest:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/94382-if-you-c...-you-pick.html

A prime lens between 40 to 60mm is considered ideal for portrait with the K-x and K-7 (and other dSLR). Pentax has a number of excellent primes, incl. the classical FA50mm f1.4. Other suggestions are listed in the above poll. I have the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4 and I can recommend it very strongly.

Happy Easter ...

tamron 90 is an awesome portrait lens... a little slow but 2.8 is okay.

On a relative small and light body the A50/1.7 suits perfectly and is cheap too.
But any cheap 50 to 55 mm will do the job, like the K55/1.8 for instance.
AF does not make sense in think, you focus on the eyes or lips manually.
When you know axactly what you want, you could buy a FA43 or Nokton 58 later.
Have fun and don't spend to much money at first. Testing different lenses
will profide you the information you are looking for and you might end up with
different lenses for different purposes or different effects.

Very hard to go past a DA70 with that criteria. Right focal length, small, sharp, fast(ish), and affordable.

DA 21 is the must lens for K-x.
on Full Frame, there is a saying, with 35mm,50mm lens you can travel all over the world.
So on APS-C, should be 21, 35 (or 21, 31, if you have more budget)

for closeup headshots I use my DA* 50-135mm and always end up using focal length around 90mm.

suggest you to get the fa35 2.0. or the da*16-50 lens.

I like Sigma 50 mm f2.8 EX DG Macro, this lens is very cheaper than Pentax prime lens. It costs 300,00 $ and I found it not too expensive. I don't know if this lens has a fast AF but I think that with a 50 mm you don't need a very fast AF.

I like also Tamron 60 mm but there is no version for Pentax and it is expensive.
