Best quality lens wider than 28mm

Hi,

It's time to fill out my lens collection and need to go wider than the 28mm f3.5. I would like to get down to 20mm but will settle for 24mm if I have to. Speed is unimportant, it can be a prime or a zoom, old or new, but the image quality needs to be the best available. A little CA is OK because that can be corrected. Photozone makes it sound like there isn't an outstanding lens in this range so I need your input on what you think is the best.

Thanks for your help.

Ken

I am saving my money now to buy the DA 14/f2.8, which I think its lens quality is outstanding.

Hi Ken.

I am actually in the process of getting Da 21 ltd just for the sake of portability.

I personally have Fa* 24 f2 and I am a little dissapointed with it. It is so prone to flare and CA wide open. I think the colour is lacking to a degree as well. It does not perform as good as Fa 31 ltd or 35 f2 or eve Da 14 f2.8

The lens is heavy made of layers of glasses and well made mechanically. But I think I am not that impressed with it.

Joele has owned Fa 28mm f2.8 before and sold it off 2 months of trying it out. It was a brand new copy but suffered lots of CA to the degree that the whole photo had the purple glow around all the silouette. Maybe it was a bad copy but he seemed to have a few people aggreeing with him.

On the other end, I really love Da 14 f2.8 a lot especially when it comes to travel. Minimal distorsion, bright view finder, great colour rendition etc. Just remember to use neutral density filter 3+ or polariser under day light. It performs the best at night or dim lit environment - the colour just stands out without any filters attached to the lens.

Go for Da 14mm f2.8
