Is LensAlign the next great thing?

Has anyone picked up one of these LensAlign devices, and if so what do you think?

I happened to see this on Google news this-morning, and it's interesting as I was considering how to build a device just like this to test for front and back focus.

It looks like a good way to tune your lenses, but the price tag seems a little steep ($249 for the full kit). I can see it's precision built but I'm having trouble getting over the hurdle of $249 for a ruler and some magnets.

Are there any other good alternatives to this kit or is this thing just the bomb, and we all need to plan on picking one up in the future?

PS: Moderators, I stuck this in the lens section since it's specifically used to tune lenses.

they certainly offer the best focusing adjustment possible, an unambiguous target at a right angle to the centerline of the lens and focusing system,

Couldn't some similar charts be located online, printed out at home and used for the same purpose... at a total cost of a few cents?

just wondering how necessary these high expenses are....?

A simple search would have revealed a similar thread here.

Ship it all around the US one customer at a time eh?

But what will I do when I find yet another lens that I need to buy and subsequently tune?

Has no one bought one of these that can give us a review?

Has anyone just built their own? Am I just going to have to bite the bullet and spend $250 on this thing?
