Found: Damaged Vivitar Series 1 24-48mm f3.8

All,

Kindly provide any input on this Vivitar Series 1 24-48 f3.8 that I just got from an estate sale. The big 77mm filter and Series 1 name sparked interest. I didn't have much time to inspect it, but it mounts properly on a old K(?) body the seller has. The aperture seem stuck, as I do not see element movement as I stopped down. Still interested, I decided to buy it anyway.

Now after I got home, this thing can not even be mounted on my K100DS. What gives? Would this be related to the stuck aperture? I may be missing something basic here. I am still optimistic that I can revive this thing, but I am out of ideas. Any ideas is much appreciated. Or am I SOL?

Are you sure that it's a K mount lens? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause it to not be mounted on one. Not sure why it would mount on an old film camera and not your digital though, the KAF mount is the same.

Are you sure it was a K-mount body the seller was trying it with?

There has been some issues with older lenses not mounting properly on Pentax DSLRs because of a larger than usual aperture lever protector flange.

The seller's body is a K-mount. I also bought a SMC M 50 f1.7 along with the vivitar. Obviously thee 1.7 fits his and mine.

Ovim, its interesting the picture is a Vivitar too. There is another thread about it here and here

Maybe I will contact these people too to get their input.

Ovim, there are also other people that went Dremel happy with the blocking flange.

I snipped my lens's flange off with a tin snips. Worked like a charm until I tried further modifications that went less well.

I just Bought ATAN 35-70 F/2.5-3.5 R/K Mount. In my K 1000 body doesn't matter, it's work properly, but it can not mount on my DSLR body.

It seems like in your picture, the flange too large and cannot mounted in my DSLR Body.

So how was the solution? Should I to cut the flange smaller?

Yes. Cut it down or even remove it.
