I would suspect since that is manufacturer pricing they should be cheaper, no?

But thats great news to be confirmed. My eye is on the 85mm and 100mm Makro-planar. The Nikon version of the 50mm on Photozone.de got excellent marks. Im' giddy. But I also just took receipt of the FA 31mm limited.

The Carl Zeiss lenses are made by the same people who make the excellent Voigtlander SL lenses (now discontinued) - COSINA. For those who missed getting the Voigtlanders, the Zeiss lenses are of the same build quality and optical quality but at almost double the price!!! Click the link to Cosina here ƒJ[ƒ‹ ƒcƒ@ƒCƒX ƒgƒbƒvƒy[ƒW

To compare the CZ Planar T* 50mm and the FA 50mm is really a chicken and egg comparison. First, the Zeiss lenses being offered for Pentax PKA mount are manual focus. Build quality wise, the Zeiss will win hands down and I'm guessing it will beat the Pentax 50mm optically as well.

If you think the made for Pentax Zeiss ZK lenses are expensive, try looking at the price of the Zeiss ZA for Sony Alpha mounts. Point of note: The Zeiss ZA for Sony are AF lenses, which has the electrical contacts, ROM-IC, and distance encoder built-in.

The Sony α Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/85mm ZA (which is not the same design as the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/85mm ZF/ZS series) is listed with a recommended retail price of 1,349 Euros/1,049 UK pounds/180,000 yen. This is far, far more expensive than the RRP of 882 Euros for the 85mm f1.4 ZK. That's a difference of 467 Euros between the Sony/Alpha mount and the PKA mount, just for AF!!!

It is an open secret that the lenses are made in Japan but Sony has been deliberately vague about where their Zeiss ZA lenses are made, perhaps to lull their Sony DSLR users to fork out huge amounts of money on the Zeiss label.

Moral of the story: Pentax is far cheaper than Sony for CZ lenses...

Excellent...

Well count me in for the 25mm one the day it hits the streets.

Unless a DA*24 or DA24 ltd magically appears within that timeframe.

I really would prefer a pentax, but zeiss will do just fine too. landscapes is MF land to me anyway.

Aw man. Now I got a decision.

77mm limited or 85mm Zeiss?

The Nikon 85mm is $1300US so the Pentax should be around there. If they are only being made till the end of the year it is a good investment. Imagine how much you could sell it for in 2009.

EDIT: The Nikon 85mm is now $984 at B&H. I am so excited. :|

I dont think these are limited edition. The first lens is due in August and the rest are due sometime 4Q 2007. They should be available in 2008 and forward.

I was going on the OP but once I read that latest announcement (last post on page 1) I realised they will be available for much longer.

I would mind getting the 100 f2 MACRO for my studio work, don't need 1:1, just need sharpness, no distortion and a flat field of focus.
