An assortment of lenses

I'm off to have a look at this tomorrow-

Pentax kit

The A 28-80 sounds like its a good lens but I'm puzzled by the other bits. What is an Asahi nzoom for instance? And what magnification and f stop loss can I expect of the tele-converter?

It all looks to be a bit of bargain at the price quoted especially if the 28-80 is as good as the reviews here suggest. I'm assuming that they will fit the K10 but will the AF work?

The autofocus will not work on the K10..only the cameras automatic settings such as the aperture and shutter speed.

Firstly, the pentax A 28-80 is a manual focus lens. You can use the camera to change the aperture and shutter speed but that is it. Also, Asahi was the company that turned into pentax i believe. thats why there products work with our cameras.

Yep, Asahi Pentax was the company that originally made the Spotmatic so many years ago.

Asahi didn't turn into Pentax--it was always Asahi. They just dropped the tag from model to model.

They also struck a deal with Honeywell who imported their cameras into the U.S. under the name Honeywell Pentax.

As far as I know, the name Asahi only died when Hoya acquired the company.

I'm happy with the Asahi name as I have a M42 55mm on my ESII, it's the 'nzoom' bit that puzzles me. The seller could have got his description wrong though.

The 28-80 is on the camera. It's hard to tell which version it is; if you're lucky, this is it with a 7.3 rating and average cost of US$85. The zoom next to the Polaroid doesn't really look like a Pentax/Asahi -- and what's that wrapped around it? I have no idea what an nzoom is. The teleconverter is eh? The flash might fry the circuits on a modern dSLR. I have no idea what the P30 body might be worth. If that mysterious nzoom IS a pristine Asahi, fine. I don't get a good feeling from looking at this lot.

You were right not to as well! Load of cr*p!

It looked as if it had been kept somewhere damp for a while for the glass was blurred in all lenses with what looked liked scratches or more probably fungal infections. So a polite 'no thanks' but his daughter hasn't got a photographer for her wedding yet so some good may come of it. Fingers crossed.

Justin.

I don't think that lot is worth 1/3 of the asking price. The P30 body is a good film body but that's all that's there. I personally don't like in of the Pentax 28-80 lenses. I think the FA 28-70mm f4 and the A and F 35-70mm are better. The M 35-70mm f2.8-3.5 is another good one.
