The reason you buy an AF540FGZ is because when you get around to purchasing a new lens, you don't get stuck then with getting a new flash if you want P-TTL flash.

Thyristor flashes work fine with new lens as well. Read the thread in the accessories forums about the 540 consistency. It look like most of the time you're better off if you use it as a thyristor flash.

Regarding a Ferrari, I thought that was why people bought them any way. At least you don't brake any laws using an AF540TGZ to its full capacity

Almost all the cars out there are able to do speeds above the ones allowed but I don't see everyone blasting at full speed. That's like saying you always use the flash at full power.

Just saw this.
While holding down the bracketing button, rotate the front dial. It cycles between (something like) off>3 pictures>5 pictures. You may have set bracketing to the 3 pictures setting, now you have to turn it off. In the menus you can set up different bracketing options.
