Pentax FA 20-35 f/4 at KEH

Just a heads up that KEH has a reasonably priced FA 20-35mm f/4 AL right now (EX+, $379), if anyone's interested.

I've seen it in the $200s before, but that was for a BGN one. I think that KEH has the best bargain lenses though because everyone else claims that they're better than most people's EX grade, so I would keep checking.

This does look like a pretty good deal though.

If you consider it good price, let me know, I'll get you 2 of them plus shipping from UK

For EX+ condition from a reputable source, yeah...I think it's reasonable, but not necessarily "good". I tracked a few in the UK and one in the US on eBay a while back. The sellers were all looking for USD$500+. Now that's neither reasonable nor good, even before one takes into account fully insured shipping, true delivery confirmation, and any applicable duty/customs. And eBay is much more of a crap-shoot than KEH. Anyway, based on historical prices in the Reviews section and those I've seen online the last year or so, it seems reasonable.

Perhaps you could convince your sources to post in the Marketplace, they just might find buyers.

Well, I don't think I'll be convincing them

but I can get you EX++ boxed FA 20-35/4 for $420 + shipping
And I won't be turning profit on that.....

Actually, I do find this price intriguing, when I see the M 20mm/4 going for about the same or even more. How does the performance of this zoom compare?

Here is a review of the FA20-35/4.

Pentax SMC-FA 20-35mm f/4 AL - Review / Lab Test

I say the DA16-45/4 is a better buy. But that's just me ....

There're ~10 reviews for the M 20 and FA 20-35 each in the Reviews section.

Unless one wants FF, in which case the decision's easy.

true, unless people want a smaller and compact sized lens.

My feelings exactly. Got a used FA20-35/4 instead of a brand new DA16-45/4 and haven't regretted it. In contrast, friends that have purchased the DA16-45/4 are selling theirs.

Taken recently using the FA20-35/4...

Yes, I had already read those reviews. The reviews are positive for both lenses, but don't really offer much of a comparison. I was curious whether anyone on the board had actually used both and could compare.

I do want FF. I already have the DA21 and a bunch of APS-c zooms in this range. If the DA21 had an aperture ring, I'd probably just use the DA21 on film and deal with the vignetting in pp, but then I am very limited in the film body I can use. The Photozone review of the FA20-35 concerns me a bit because the test appears to show soft corners, and they are testing on APS-c. I wonder how this plays out in actual film shots with detail toward the edges.

The FA 20-35/4 (at least my copy) is sharp corner to corner from f5.6 onwards. I can vouch for that
I've only used it on a Pentax dslr as of yet.

Thanks. My primary reason for purchasing would be film. Do you have any idea how it compares to the Sigma DG 17-35/2.8? That is the FF zoom I am using right now to get something like the same FOV.

I don't have any experience with the Sigma DG 17-35/2.8. I used to own the Sigma EX DG 28-70mm f2.8, which I found wanting in both resolution, color saturation and IQ. Truth is you won't be needing a 2.8 at these focal lengths most of the time.
