Pentax-D FA 100mm WR f/2.8 Macro Review (Popular Photography)

PopPhoto confirms what most Pentax users who own this lens already know, talk about a quality piece of glass.

Weather resistant, uber sharp from wide open, practically zero distortions, excellent metal build, great focal length for more than one application.

Also that it beats out Canon's 100mm f/2.8 IS as well.

One question, they mention an AF motor - but it is my understanding it is screw driven, right? Or wrong? They way they mention it, it seems they are saying the lens has its own AF motor.

I'll be picking mine up from the shipper tonight. Finally have it in my hands.

C

Yup, screw drive. That's why they called it "whiny".

That's what I thought. They should edit the review.

Otherwise another good review for Pentax, the Kx, 35mm LTD Macro, and now the 100mm WR Macro.

They did mention it in there. Not as having screw drive, but as not having SDM. You know, like in an "OMG, screw drive? That's sooooo, like totally, not rad" kind of way.

Is this a 1:1 macro lens like the Vivitar/Lester A Dine?

If so, I might sell the Vivitar and get the Pentax instead.

yes, it is capable of full 1:1 magnification, without auxiliary optics.

Hmmm....

Anyone want to trade their Pentax 100mm WR for my Vivitar (Kiron Made)?

Got a few nice shots of butterflies in Queensland a few days ago.

Nice to test out its abilities. I never knew butterflies had curly 'mouths'
