I appreciate it the warning; surprising though as a lot of people really love that TC. I do still feel compelled to get one though (or Sigma), if I really really need the reach out there on the savannah. I guess a degraded subject is better then a unrcecognizably small subject...?
Well, the third party TC do not perform well in my hands due to lack of personal photoghraphy skills I reckon.

Tamron or Sigma or Kenko TC do perform reasonably well with strong lighting and sometimes little image degradation could be seen. I also have tried out Joel - moderator's tamron 1.4X as well and we were both not that impressed with it. Stopping down at least 2 stops to get reasonable images but the colour are all washed out

If you have tried 2S or 1.4S or Af 1.7X, the difference is big!! (only need to stop down one aperture to get a good sharp images with great colour

Holy cow!!! 258pounds over US$500!!!
And I thought I overpaid last year at $233.

I don't have much luck with TCs. I've got a Kenko 1.5x and the Pentax 1.7AF. Although I've seen stunning results from TCs, both degrade the image too much for my taste, unless I stop down quite a bit.

i.e., post # 8.

I'd be ready to sell it -- I'm too embarrassed to say why -- if it wasn't that it can make MF lenses have some AF functions, which I'd like to 'play with'.

TC multiplie not only your focal length also your f number so you lose light, also your lens errors.

So good TC performs good on a good lens.

The combination good TC bad lens or good tc + bad lens= no good.

I use the Sigma 1.4 EX on my F* 300/4.5 wide open with no noticable loss of IQ.
