depends on aperture used, focal length and focus distance. its not quite as easy as just saying '1.4 is wider so gives a more shallow depth of field.'

here is just but one of many useful sites for understanding this.

the FA 50, but the difference is rather miniscule (probably not enough for you to see any real difference) you can use the handy calculator right on that page to determine this (or close to it since it doesn't have a 2.4 selection) thats what I did.

When at MFD:
FA 50 1.4 @ 45cm: 0.41 cm
DA70 2.4 @ 70cm: 0.86 cm

When subject is at same distance
FA 50 1.4 @ 70cm: 1.03 cm
DA70 2.4 @ 70cm: 0.86 cm

Keep in mind perspective distortions and different mangifications due to different focal lengths. For the same framing, the DA70 will allow you to be further away, and compress what x cm looks like. For the same subject distance, the DA70 will magnify the image.

To get extremely shallow DoF, just pick up an extension tube.

and prepare to compensate for lighting as well.

do you want the same size image on the sensor?

if so, the answer may differ.

The answer depends on which one of the two paramters, distance from the subject and field of view when you compare the two. If you keep the same distance, the DA70mm 2.4 gives slight shallow DOF of around 7.5 inches, if you keep the same field of view (by moving the subject distance), then 50mm 1.4 gives slightly shallow DOF of around 8 inches.
