Took a shallow depth of field pic with my 44-2 yesterday of the new violin rosin I received:

Hiya,

Bought a 44-2 today. I don't know if my copy is a stellar one or it's the 44-2, but I am simply stunned at it. From now on I'll be sharing my 44-2 products here.

More to follow later

Beautiful shot, love the color, entertaining subject matter ("Oh, hai!"). The 44-2 is the only version I have, but I have zero complaints. Always pulls a nice shot for me.

Sent my 44K-4 I just got off to Eric. Don't know if he re-greases those ones but I sent it anyways to see--I sent it along with other stuff I am having him work on.

Another with the 44-2.

Next shots I hope to dive in to this swirling bokeh thing.

It's simultaneously easier, and harder, than you think it is to get the swirling. Just when you think you'll have the right specular highlights to get it, it's as buttery smooth as you could hope for from an SMC tak. You think you have a boring background for bokeh and *BAM* there's the swirl. I haven't been able to predict it yet.

Here's a series I took this spring when things warmed up here in Wisconsin for a couple weeks well before it really was time. Not claiming to be a great photographer, but I think it does a great job of illustrating the lack of predictability of the swirl (unless I'm just stupid and it seems obvious ) "Budding Spring" (helios 44-2)

I think the ducks and the pool closed sign may have been my f1.8 55mm super tak, the rest should all be the helios.

well as far as I realized, the background must be "uniformly busy" in order for the swirling to be clear. I caught it at the very first shot I did, cuz I read so much about it

when you focus on your subject and there will be swirling, you can even see it in the viewfinder. here is one shot I caught it:

notice the top left corner;

and a more direct one. the top section.

not great examples, I know. I will be able to create more and typical swirls once I get the hold of it

indeed, some nearly dizzying. I was more trying to illustrate the seemingly inconsistencies in them. Some of those I really thought would nail the swirl, but were nice and smooth, and visa versa. Crazy lens, always fun.

I think the bokeh is very clear with empty backgrounds, of backgrounds which have huge, unspoiled elements. then the bokeh is very creamy is like an oil painting

very playful thing indeed.

Its a 44m with a modified focus throw that lets me get a lot closer.
Shot wide open even though I shoud probably have stepped down a couple.
