Hey Matt,

There were no 44-2's at the Poitiers swap, but do not despair. There's another swap that I may go to this coming Sunday, but it's a 5 hour round trip ... so not so sure on that one.

Worst case scenario : I will send you a PM on a 44-2 from my collection. Cheers, J

Thanks! No need to rush or go to great effort. I just inherited a camera collection so I've got lots of cool old stuff to play with for a while!

I saw a Helios 44-2 sold on ebay with square iris shape.

Take a look!

Anyone tried it? What do you think?

I saw that modification before. I don't know if I would get it, it seems like the kind of effect that you can get bored with. But it is interesting, and wide open, the bokeh would be the same regardless of aperture blades. So if you really like those sample photos, why not. The cost is not outrageous

I have a project to convert one to square iris form ... just disassemble, cut down every other blade ... just no time at the moment.

And I am not sure that one should buy that one linked. One image of the aperture shows that every other blade has been removed (IMO) ... I tried that technique the first time and later the blades got jammed. Just FYI and YMMV. J

Ah Billy Joe, the man who started it all. To the earlier forumites, your work burns bright as legend. Thanks for sharing those and salute.

With the holiday lights coming I've got one on the way myself. I got a genuine Pentax M42 adapter and I'm just waiting for the lens to come.
Looks like fun!

Ok, got it from Latvia and cosmetically it's got a lot of character but the glass looks good. No f-stop clicks, is that normal?
Getting the adapter (genuine Pentax) on and off the camera is hard to do. Is there a good trick besides pressing the spring with a little screwdriver?

Here's the dog test from my lunch hour today.
