Just a quick update, been using my new 16-45mm for a couple of weeks - love it! Big improvement over the kit lens for sure, and the extra 2mm does wonders on the wide end. Contrast and colour is improved, but the biggest difference is the wide angle without distortion, and the overall crispness right to the corners.

The only downside (as mentioned before but it can get really annoying) is that the lens casts a shadow when you use the pop-up flash.

And the 16-45mm is back to $390 on Amazon... Hope you got it when it was $300.

any big and long lens will always cast a shadow because it will block the light emitted from the pop-up flash. the solution for this is simple, you can use a an external flash extended higher or bounce flash it using the external flash or pop-up flash using a lightscoop.
