Metering issue with kenko 1.5x shq & DA 300mm

When I use the teleconverter on my k-x with the 300mm f4 it under exposes.
I tried with the sigma ex 105 and same thing
using av mode at f-4 or any focal ratio.
I tried using the meter in manual mode but still under exposes. Is this normal

Is there a way to tell the camera I am using a tc.

whats up??
Joe

Try using +.5 or +1 EV. Some TCs do tend to trick the metering system a bit.

What's your metering pattern set to? Multi?

Try center weighted, or even play with SPOT.

I have it on spot. I was in the woods taking pictures in the shade with back lighting.
I will try segment metering tomorrow under the same conditions and see if that helps.

The subject was an owl with white spots , that might have helped also.

Though I did not have much variation in exposure without the tc.

I will see if I can post a picture/
Thanks Joe

OK I tried again today. I used segment metering and no problems at all. I try spot metering and no problems again. Huh? Yesterday I took 30 shots and could not get proper exposure.

My thinking is either dirty contacts or the teleconverter is a little touchy for making contact!!
