My short list would be A* 200/4 macro
A* 85/1.4
FA* 300/2.8 or the rumored DA* 400/4
and everytime I see the smc Special 50mm F1:1.2 silver I get goose bumps
you rarely see them on eBay once in a while. sometimes BIN for those sellers who want a quick sale, but most times they let the market demand dictate the price.

Not enough money

The $10,000 budget in this thread is not enough money for my lens lust. Yeah I Want a 1200 mm prime lens and it has to be the fast one which I think is the 1200 f5 or there might be a newer 1200 in the Pentax line up but I do remember they are all priced in excess of $10,000 for the one lens. Plus I would have to buy the strongest tripod and the strongest gimbal mount so I could see $15,000 going into the one lens purchase. Oh yeah, I have to get the best Pentax digital body for the lens also. I wonder just how much it might cost? 20K??

I think the OP wanted to keep to the cheap stuff...like Leica (kidding). If you could find a 1200 for a good price, you might be able to add a few good inexpensive primes like I did with my list at the start of this thread. I didn't bother adding camera bodies/tripods etc as I thought that would be in addition to the lens budget.

A dream budget of $20K budget for lenses is more realistic...but still kinda chintzy. Adjusted to 2010 dollars, the 1200s were around $30,000 US when first released. I doubt Pentax will release another one. I'd be happy to see them release a DA*600....which I am presuming would be at least $5,000. (?)

If you check my list of lenses I have a number of primes over 200 mm and under that and most happy with my Tamron 24 f2.5. I am not too happy with my 200 mm choices however and I just don't have much to spend so I started a thread hoping for tips leading me to a 200 mm quick as or quicker than f4. My current dream is that, a 200 mm f2.8, that is light enough to hand hold but prime focal length and that I can get with caps for way under $100. To dream the impossible dream!

$10G to spend eh...

All Zeiss;

21mm f/2.8 ZK Distagon T* $1680

28mm f/2 Distagon T* $1230

35mm f/2 ZK Distagon T* $950

50mm f/1.4 ZK $670

85mm f/1.4 ZK Planar T* $1680

$5760 USD

I can't imagine a better set of lenses for me. If I had to pick just one of those, the 28mm or 35mm f/2 would top my list.

Imagine all your lenses have been taken away and you're only left with a Pentax camera body and $10,000. You must spend the $10,000 on a collection of lenses to last you for the rest of your life. These are the last lenses you will ever use. What would you buy?
LOL 10K is hardly enough!
Having said that... I'd take the money and buy three of the best Nikkor lenses for my D700 and be done with it.

One can only dream right?

I've heard of a 35mm f1.4 Distagon that had 3 aperture blades and gave this unusual triangular bokeh shape. That's definitely something I'd like to try if I went all Zeiss.
