Sigma 400mm reflex mounting problem

i just received this lens today, upon mounting it to my k-x however it would not rotate in because of the nib sticking out.

I think i have heard of this problem before on another forum and the nib was filed down to correct this.

Rather than hacking at the nib i removed the plastic inner ring (as shown in pics). Is it safe to use the lens without this?

cheers

The "nib" is there to protect the aperture lever which that lens doesn't have anyway as the aperture is fixed. However the shroud that the nib is part of is also there to prevent stray light so contrast may suffer a bit without it.
