I wouldn't pay that much for one. It shouldn't be too difficult to find one used. They've been sold under many different names for years. You'd be better off getting a spotting scope and a T-Adapter, which is essentially what this lens is.

Rokinon doens't manufacture lenses; they just stick their name on whatever they happen to be able to get their hands on from other manufacturers. Some of their lenses are made by Samyang; not sure about this one. But in general, those long tube simple refracting telescope lenses don't tend to perform as well as you'd hope, and they are really quite large (but also quite light). A mirror lens is, in my opinion, usually a better way of cheap cheap long telephoto.

As a rule do you all like a teleconvertor or a mirror lense. Is it possible to use a teleconvertor on a mirror lens?

AFAIK you cannot use a teleconverter w/ a mirror lens. Marc can correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a matter of light and image quality. The Vivitar/Samyang 500/8 mirror comes with a 2X teleconverter. Using the 2X means 1000mm f16. The converter degrades the image somewhat, and the lens isn't always that great anyway.

Now the Tamron Adaptall-2 500/8 mirror is a lot better than the Vivitar. I have successfully used the 01F 2X teleconverter with this lens a couple of times.

You can't have any subject or camera movement at the shutter speeds you must use. Focusing is difficult too. If you can get all those factors in control and start with a good lens, it's possible.
