PH-RBA lens hood for DA 18-55mm AL

There is a push-out panel in the lower part of the PH-RBA lens hood as supplied with the DA 18-55mm AL kit lens as supplied with the K100D Super.

What purpose does the push-out panel serve? There doesn't appear to be any reference in the user manual . . .

I believe that piece is removable so you can adjust a polarizing filter with the hood installed.

You would remove the cap when using a Circular Polarizing filter so you would be able to rotate it while keeping the hood on.
