Dear all,
(I have try to search for a section on teleconverter but that was unsuccessfull. So if this faq should appear in the wrong place - can someone please set it in the right place. )
I am planning to buy a 150-500mm F5-6.3 telezoom lense and then slap on a teleconverter (X1.5 or X2.0). The question is, is it worth doing. With a F5-6.3 the light restriction is already limited, if I add on the converter that would mean I have to really slowdown the exposure time. Thus on safarie with wildfile this combination would be useless than. Is that a correct assumption?

You are correct in that when using an F5-6.3 lens, loosing 1-2 stops of light would require you to either slow up your shutter speed or increase your ISO. In your case, you would have to bump up your ISO to maintain a shutter speed capable of capturing a moving animal. I personally think 500mm's should be sufficient for most situations while on the Safari. You should also be aware, the lose of exposure also means the view through you viewfinder gets 1-2 stops darker and you will loose auto focusing.
